Akhil Bharitya Vidyarthi Parishad
Friends,
Akhil Bharitya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) since its inception has believed in the fact that a student is a citizen of today, not tomorrow. This becomes more evident in the contemporary context of the problems that are being faced by our nation and the role of the students to tackle them cannot be undermined. The problems like terrorism, naxalism and commercialization of education are clearly indicating that students should come forward and take action to counter these problems.
Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad is working in the field of education with a wider perspective of National Reconstruction with a nationalist approach. ABVP started soon after independence in 1948 with the objective of channelizing students' energies in the task of National Reconstruction by a group of students and teachers. The ABVP has been active on various campuses across the country, sensitizing the student community on the issue of various threats posed to our national unity and also by organizing them towards the goals of National Reconstruction through agitation, constructive and representative modes.
ABVP considers Delhi University to be one of the most important centers of students’ activities. ABVP reiterates its position of not compromising with the national and student’s interest at any cost and to serve the aspirations of the student community. At a time when opportunistic and totalitarian forces are conspiring to destabilize and jeopardize the national integrity and democratic ethos of India, the role of ABVP becomes extremely crucial to thwart their ulterior designs and motives.
Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election 2010-11 is taking place amidst acute national crisis, which is ideological as well as systemic. In such a critical situation when various groups are hankering for their share in the pie and are ready to sacrifice the national interests, the student community of Delhi University would strengthen the nationalist spirit by voting for the ABVP that represents selfless dedication to nationalism, unity and integrity of India that is Bharat.
Delhi University is one of the premier educational hubs of this country. Therefore students’ union election is considered to be very important. But irresponsible leadership of parties like NSUI led University to a great time low. Because of incapability and non-cooperation of NSUI’s leaderships, there are various student related issues and problems that have remained unanswered. From time to time ABVP led students’ Union has consistently tried to raise the concerns of student community at each and every level. However, there are still various issues which demand more attention and prompt response from student leadership.
· Hardships faced by students due to CWG games.
· Non-availability of professional courses in colleges of Delhi University which is compelling student community to take admission in private institutions coughing up large amounts of money due to their exorbitantly high fee structure.
· Lack of hostel facilities on the campus, students who are not residents of Delhi have been facing plethora of problems.
· Students are also facing academic problems due to anomalies in University’s Internal Assessment Scheme.
· Safety and security of female students is a big concern.
· Students of Delhi University are yet to get Metro Rail Concession for their day to day travels.
Friends, ABVP has over 40 years of glorious and successful history of its presence on this campus and earnestly believes that once again students of this campus will give their mandate to the candidates of ABVP and pose their faith in us. We commit ourselves to give the students of Delhi University good and honest representation of their voices. If elected, we believe that our candidates would live up to the expectations of the student community of this campus and solve their problems and raise their concerns.
Following are the areas on which we would like to work upon:
1. Stop Commercialization of Education
· Students of Delhi who want to pursue professional and vocational courses (to ensure job after completion of course) are left with empty hands since presence of such courses is negligible in Colleges of DU. In wake of this students are opting for private institutes and colleges of Noida, Faridabad and Gurgaon which is certainly not a healthy trend.
· ABVP strongly believes that this is sheer indirect commercialization of education and this trend should stop immediately. ABVP led Union would demand University administration to open more and more new professional courses like Animation, Retail management, Public Relations, Travel and Tourism, Performing Arts, Information Technology, Bio Technology, Business and Economics etc. with a lower fee structure.
· We would also demand for a university level coordination committee for the promotion of vocational and job oriented courses.
2. East and West Campus
· Strength of Students is increasing rapidly. We demand that facilities provided by all the colleges should be uniform and administration should be decentralized. So we would struggle for the establishment of East and West Campuses and also demand for a Law Faculty at the East campus would be placed.
3. Educational Issues
· ABVP would continue to raise its earlier demand to spend 10% of the total amount of central budget on Education.
· We demand for more and effective student representation in academic council.
· We demand time bound declaration of examination results.
· We would also demand to provide free internet facility to the students on the college campus.
· We would demand to introduce evening classes in every colleges of the university so that more and more students can avail the facilities of this prestigious university.
· For evening colleges university should arrange U-Special, Generators, etc.
· We demand for beds in the university medical centre.
· We would try to get the Central and Arts Library fully computerized that would be functional for 24 hours with all latest/relevant books and study materials.
· To see that students coming from various parts of country do not face any hardships in Delhi
· Coordination Committee of Private Hostel owners, Land Lords and Students would be made.
· ABVP thinks that there should be consensus among University administration, teachers and student community on Semester system. Then only Semester system should be implemented.
4. Open New Colleges
· Since last 12 years the parent party of NSUI is running the government of city-state of Delhi but it is very much evident that no new degree colleges were opened in these years, though, population of Delhi has increased by lakhs in last years.
5. Fee Structure
· Various aspects of the fee structure of the university will be analyzed so that we can make an effort to make it more equitable and logical.
6. Reforms in Admission Process
· ABVP led student union would do its best to make the admission process centralized and make sure that in this process priority of students be taken care of in matters of colleges and syllabus. We would also demand from the authorities to make sports, cultural and other quota admissions more transparent.
7. Concession to Students with Rural background
· We would also demand to give concessions in admission to the students who belong to rural background.
8. Fill vacant Seats
· We would also try to get the vacant OBC/SC/ST/PH seats in various colleges filled.
9. Teaching and Examination Reforms:
· A demand will be placed to make an academic calendar of the whole year. In order to make sure the transparency, we would try to come up with the arrangement of making the answer sheets available to the students on their request. It would be tried to make the best answer sheet available in the library.
10. Internal Assessment: We would try to do away with the anomalies in the University’s Internal Assessment Scheme.
11. Transportation:
· Exclusive Coaches for Girls: Metro is becoming new life line of daily commuters of Delhi. ABVP led Union would fight for exclusive coaches for female students in every Metro train on the lines of the practice followed by Mumbai local trains.
· We would fight for getting concessions and student’s pass in Delhi Metro with Metro feeder buses across the campuses. We would continue our struggle to increase the services of DTC U-Special buses.
· We would also struggle to provide student’s pass in STA sponsored Blue Line buses and acknowledge student’s pass in all the public transportations in the NCR as well as better connectivity of NCR with the different colleges of Delhi University.
· We would try to provide the shuttle buses between North and South Campuses.
12. Hostel Facility:
· Common Wealth Game has stolen roof of common students. There are no rooms for students in surrounding areas of Delhi University. ABVP would meet University administration in 24 hours of resuming the office and pressurize administration to come up with arrangement for at least new students.
· We would continue with our struggle to provide more hotel facilities to the students especially for girls, students from North-East and the deprived sections of the society. We also demand for well furnished hostels in both North and South campus.
13. Scholarship:
· We would work for the increment in scholarships and demand to link scholarship with price index.
· We would also struggle for scholarships to all SC/ST/PH students.
· We would try to manage a link between industry-student-NGOs so that students from poor section could be helped. And, this kind of economic assistance would be provided through an Economic Assistance Committee.
14. Secure and Fear-Free Campus
· We would continue with our demand to make North Campus a closed and compact campus.
· To make girl students more self confident we would organise self-defense Training Camps in various colleges and university campus.
15. Infrastructure Improvement
· We would demand for infrastructure improvement in each and every college of Delhi University.
16. Placement Cell
· We would work towards the effective, meaningful and job-oriented placement cell of the Delhi University.
We promise that ABVP led DUSU would pursue the aforementioned agendas and always work for a good academic and secure environment and creative and constructive student activism on the campus. We promise that we would consistently struggle till our demands of providing better facilities to the students’ community is not met completely, in order to keep in place the culture of healthy academic environment.
ABVP is totally aware and concerned about its responsibilities and duties towards students and youth of this great nation. So it promises that through DUSU it would work for their best and try to live up to their expectations. We call upon the student community of Delhi University to take active participation in the forthcoming DUSU elections and wholeheartedly support and elect the ABVP’s candidates.
